For the second straight week the most anticipated game of the weekend features Trinity League powers as No. 4 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) hosts No. 5 Servite (Anaheim, Calif.) on Friday night. The Friars gave No. 1 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) all they could handle last week but fell short 46-37 and look to bounce back against the Braves.
St. John Bosco has won three in a row since a 42-21 loss against IMG Academy and have notable wins over Miami Central (Miami), Alemany (Mission Hills), East St. Louis (Ill.), Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, Va.), Orange Lutheran (Orange) and Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita) this season.
The 7A-Region 8 title is on the line Friday in Georgia between No. 7 Collins Hill (Suwanee) and Mill Creek (Hoschton). Both teams are undefeated and a Hawks win would get them in the MaxPreps Top 25 rankings next week. The Eagles have posted five shutouts in their last six games and are allowing less than five points per game.
No. 2 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) hits the road to Alabama to face last year’s 7A runner-up, Auburn. The Ascenders are going for their 19th consecutive win and are coming off an impressive 49-8 victory over East St. Louis (Ill.).
No. 8 Center Grove (Greenwood, Ind.) and No. 17 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) are the only MaxPreps Top 25 teams to begin postseason action this week.
The defending Indiana 6A state champs have won a school record 23 consecutive games and open up on Friday at Franklin Central (Indianapolis).
The Gaels cruised to a one-sided 51-0 win over Faith Lutheran (Las Vegas) in the opening round of the 5A state playoffs and have now outscored their first six in-state opponents 324-0.
A couple of marquee matchups on Saturday feature No. 6 Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.) at St. Peter’s Prep (Jersey City) and No. 24 St. John’s (Washington, DC) hosting Good Counsel (Olney, Md.).
